After nearly 10 months of work, the revamped version of World 1 for Relic reached a playable state! Here’s what’s new in the game.
Cael’s Courtyard Reimagined
Work on the new version of World 1 started in January this year, when I was realized that the old version no longer stood up to the game’s rising quality level. As such, the world was rebuilt from scratch. The mansion received a major makeover, and the main Core courses were redesigned to be more enjoyable. Although the final cutscenes, details, and polishing hasn’t been done yet, the world is fully playable.
Under The Hood Changes
The Engine received some major changes, the main one being the finalization of the Data Saving system. Core and Chip counts now transfer between worlds, and it’s relatively easy to set up behind the scenes, which is always a plus point! It’s also possible for NPCs to remember if you’ve done something in-game. For example, in the new W1, Butler Butch has two different dialogues when he stands next to the giant door in the cave. Try talking to him before the door is opened, and after the door is opened!
In-Game Settings & Manually Playing Cutscenes
There’s a new page in the expanded HUD menu aptly named “Misc.” – it houses two things for now. One is the game’s settings list, and another is the list of cutscenes in the world.
The settings for now is limited to whether shadows are enabled, whether NPC animations are enabled, and also a dedicated Potato Mode which removes most of the highly detailed objects in the world.
The cutscene list only allows cutscenes to be played if players have seen the cutscene before.
Fresh New Main Menu
In addition to an entire world being rebuilt from scratch – the main menu has also been remade! The old code for it was atrocious, to say the least. It’s now a lot more easier to work with behind the scenes. It’s also got a fancy new background, the Firewall HQ, and the camera moves from place to place depending on what page was selected.
That’s all of the updates for now, hope you all enjoy!
